"Be sure to visit in winter (with a heavy coat to protect against the snowy weather!) when the small Christmas market by the lake attracts many from all around the countryside. This market is comprised of many stalls manned by the young town folk selling handmade local wares. If you walk to the north side of the market you can see and touch the body of water where the market, Lakeside, got it's name. After a busy day of shopping, a popular eatery where many locals love to dine is just a short walk south across a narrow basin with a river running through it. A little further is the eatery where one can dine on the finest beef available to man but be sure not to miss their specialty, an intricately cut onion (it must take them hours to do so!) that is then breaded and deep fried! You cannot find another like it anywhere but in the small town of Metairie."
