Just got some of this cool old stuff from
my 83 yr old father tonight..some has some value, but I’m definitely holding it to pass to my boys. My father is declining and wants to pass the history forward. I have 3 sisters that seem disinterested, but if it’s got family related history, I’m all-in and want it. From right to left, it’s a British made Peter Pan gramophone…wound it up and it spins…note says circa 1920’s, top right is a “US Mail” pull-down bank (note says 1915), some kind of star razor and sharpening kit that seems pretty awesome, “the peerless” razor strap that goes with the razor, centrally, some kind of electrical test kit from 1878??? The story behind it is that it was used to save my great uncles life to overcome congested phone lines to call a doctor to my asthmatic great uncle who was a baby, the Cannon replica from Vicksburg made by my grandfather whom I never met, and a 32 colt used by my great grandfather who had unscrupulous dealings from time to time, but was a good man. Kept the gun in his back right pants pocket and is worn from use on one side. “US” leather holster fits it well, also included.
All this to say, happy Father’s Day!
Find the important things and hold on to them! History matters and it will be a legacy you can pass down.

32 colt
We have my great grandfather’s 32 revolver from when he was sheriff. Still have a box of ammo.
Hit or miss whether the rounds fire though.

Upon further review, this razor sharpening apparatus is pretty freaking awesome. It’s the handheld part, then a geared alternating side sharpener. It reads “kampfe bros, New York”…
These were special people that think our worst day was a walk on the beach.

If I could upvote you more than once, sum bitch, I'd run the number up at least 3 or 4 dozen times. Lost my dad in 2001 to opioids. To have him at *83* and passing this cool stuff on to me circa 2024... I'm legitimately happy for you, stranger.
What a blessed life a good son and good father have. It's what all us men strive for.

Dad is a character for sure. Scarred at an early point in life where he grew up with parents from farm to country-club lifestyle in nowhere MS. Granddad gains rarely seen levels of success during WW2, but becomes the town drunk 7-8 years later. Ugly childhood ensues.
It’s crazy to hear these stories, but it’s historical fact and a part of why I am who I am today. Some of its been ugly, some amazing and inspiring, but it’s all true.
That’s history.
