LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WVUE) - A recovery operation is underway in a remote marsh area between Raceland and Houma after a small plane crashed Wednesday (April 2) night, killing both people on board.
The aircraft, a 1976 Cessna 210 L owned by Southern Seaplanes, went down around 8:30 p.m. in a marsh about two miles north of Highway 182 and near the intersection of Highway 90.
Authorities identified the victims as Lyle Pannepinto, owner of Southern Seaplanes, and Lauren Menkemeller, who was reportedly training as a pilot for the company.
Mr Lyle is a bit of a legend. A longtime DPE with a reputation for fast, efficient checkrides. I took my PPL checkride with him two months ago and got to hang out with him for 3 hours at the Slidell FBO waiting for weather to pass. Good South LA dude… He will be missed

49 YO airplane? Might've been time to update the fleet. RIP regardless.

Pretty certain his was on floats. I would love a 210….
210 has retractable gear so no floats.

What is a DPE?
Designated Pilot Examiner.
The person you have to prove your airmanship to.

Designated Pilot Examiner.
The test proctor who evaluates you on your checkride.
My checkride with him was fantastic.
His motto was “I’m not here to teach you but you’re definitely gonna learn something today”
Very chill and reasonable examiner. Loved picking his brain about aviation
