So what if it is not for a young couple?

If you've been single long enough and established with your own things and don't need a registry to furnish a home should you really be asking friends and family to furnish your Caribbean cruise?

This is the only part of the post that is trashy. You don't broadcast this all over your fb. If you have a honeymoon fund set up....you put the info on a small card that is tucked into your invitations. You treat it just like a registry.

It's a gift for their wedding. Why do you care what the money is going towards? Either give a gift or don't, but acting like you should have any say in the validity of what they ask for is just preposterous.

My future wife had one and so did I. Did you not put that together in your head?

I couldn't bring myself to ask for a panini maker. Some shite is just useless.

Besides, I was responding to a person that set up the hypothesis that someone asking for honeymoon money was just going to come home to an empty house. reductio ad absurdum

In response to you and Eric Nies Grind Time.. I don't disagree with you. The specific couple I'm referring to graduated from college within the last year. I guess my opinion on it is different since I'm early 20s and the people I know getting married are also early 20s.

Is this any worse than a gift registry?

Yes. A gift registry is extremely common and traditional. A honeymoon fund is just asking for hand-outs, IMO. At least the registered gift items are useful and help you get on your feet.

People like to give gifts and if they are then I'm going to ask for something I need/want.

And how different is that than giving a couple cash or a check for a wedding gift? No one thinks a second thought at that.

I just don't really see the big deal. As long as you aren't asking people not invited to your wedding to donate..who really cares?

Who says they aren't on their feet?

ETA: I'm quoting this again for you too:

I don't see any problem with this if this is an alternative to the gift registry.

Same here. If I'm going to give a wedding "gift" I much rather it be something the couple actually wants. A lot of couples have already lived together prior to marriage and have a lot of the essentials that end up on wedding gift registries.

Now if they're expecting people to contribute to the honeymoon AND bring a gift from a registry (especially those not invited, like in a Facebook share), that shite is ridiculous.

On the contrary, I think they sound pretty smart if they get it to work.

What's trashy about wanting people to get you something you'll actually use? If you're just saying trashy top sound cool on the OT, sorry to burst your bubble it isn't working.

Yes, and I'm fairly certain the above opinion is directly relevant to the discussion.

I was invited to a wedding recently that the couple asked that instead of gifts that donations towards a cruise be made. I don't think they got more than about 250.

Should be enough for a nice interior room on a Carnival.

As has already been posted, the honeymoon is supposed to be the groom's family responsibility. If they can't swing that, bidding out your stingray snorkel expedition to distance relatives and friends is kind of trashy. Sorry we touched your crowdsourced honeymoon nerve

As opposed to asking for spatulas and other trinkets just because the registry guide at Bed Bath and Beyond said to?

That cut deep bro.

Yea, vacations suck. I really hope some of yall aren't the way you act on here. Gotta be really hard walking a round all day with a giant stick in your arse worrying about what is or isn't trashy.
