Shreveport is really hard if you're single - the dating pool outside your class is microscopic (I imagine it's even harder for women). Otherwise, Shreveport is an ok place to live - much cheaper than NOLA, no traffic, and there are nice parts of town.
Applied to both NOLA and Shreveport, and would have gone to NOLA if I'd gotten in there tbh

Hard to beat living in the same city as family.
To be square with you, the first 2 years will look the same either place - you'll be using the same 3rd party resources to study for system exams and step prep.
As for 3rd year and beyond - Shreveport is one of the only major hospitals for hundreds of miles in all directions, so you'll get some really great exposure and experience to an incredible range of pathology. NOLA is certainly the more prestigious of the 2, but Shreveport grads do match well.
One thing to look for is how often the home institution will take students from the medical school for different residencies, esp the surg subspecialties - taking a lot of students from the home med school is a vote of confidence in the quality of residents produced from the med school - just food for thought.
