Personally imo the bar exam should be like the FE is for engineering. You graduate, pass the bar and become an attorney in training (AIT). After fours years experience, with the sign offs and references from other fully licensed attorneys, you are eligible to take a second harder bar exam in your specific field like the professional engineering PE test.

The problem is that people would be spending a shitload of money on a law degree they’ll never be able to use so the number of lawyers will decrease and their prices will increase

I believe one logical solution to this so-called problem would be to make law school have pre-requisites other than having ANY undergraduate degree. I believe to many people end up going to law school because they graduate and don't know what to do next. I do agree with the previous posters that mentioned that the problem fixes itself. There are a lot of people with law degrees that do not practice law.
