There was a time, 5-10 years ago college aged kids were not smoking. When I drive by Loyola, Tulane I’m starting to see more kids smoking cigs than years pass.

Smoking rates are on a sharp decline, especially amoung that age group. I can assure you you’re annedotal evidence is not factual

You really think smokers begin at the legal age? Hahahahahaha! They could lower it to 15 or raise it to 25. Results would be the same.

Today's 18 year olds are nothing like the 18 year olds of generations past.

Why is it that we allow 18 year olds to decide they can die for our country, but that they cannot have a beer in our country? If we are willing to let you die for our country should we be willing to to let you drink a beer in our country.

Tobacco should be banned fully. It has absolutely no health benefits.

They need to get of the tobacco regulation all together. People are responsible enough to make their own decisions. It's a plant for crying out loud. Our founding fathers would be disgusted at the nanny state we've created.

This. Why does everyone want to tell others what to do?

Don't like the cost to the medical system? Real fricking simple, stop providing free health care and allow insurance to charge way more or drop those that do. Don't like those on food stamps eat bad and are fat....simple stop providing the damn benifits.

STOP TRYING TO CONTROL THE DAMN FREE MARKET AND STOP SUBSIDIZING BAD CHOICES AND THIS FIXES ITSELF.

I dont smoke and think its disgusting and one of the trashiest things you can do. But I don't give a dman if others want to do it.

And OP, if you feel like this, explain to me why its ok for the 18-20 year old to go fight for your country and he is responsible enough for that, yet he isn't responsible enough to make his own decisions on things like alcohol or tobacco?

It is the only way to combat the ludicrous cost of healthcare.

Since a very large portion of tobacco users are also on some sort of government assistance and could not afford higher premiums, you create a separate charity system of hospitals and clinics.

As a podiatrist I deal a lot with diabetes and peripheral vascular disease. I can't even count how many patients I have to do some level of amputation on, and when they come for their follow up appointment they've got a 1L coke in their hand and a pack of cigarettes in their purse. Most of these people also have either medicaid or no insurance at all.

The amount of money spent treating lifestyle-related illnesses is unfathomable, and it's only going to get worse.

THen its real simple, stop paying for their shite and let them die. THis isn't that hard. Same for fat people, those with diabetes from being fat, alcoholics. STOP SUBSIDIZING BAD CHOICES!!! don't take freedom away and create and even bigger governement.

I swear I am surrounded by retards that can't think for themselves. Guy I quoted is a doctor yet is a stupid frick.

No, but insurance companies should be able to charge people way more (than they already do) for illness related to lifestyle choices

Double edge sword. I think all the libertarians dont get how it works. One thing is having the freedom do do something, but when negatives affect the masses then yes the govt needs to step in.

Cant bitch about high ins costs, and then bitch about having the freedom to do whatever you want. So no adult smokers arent taking on the full responsibility of their life long actions.

If only banning selling cigs to people under age prevented smoking.

If only banning selling drugs kept people off drugs

If only banning alcohol prevented people from becoming alcoholics

IS THIS REALLY THE WORLD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN?
