I do 100K miles in a little over 2 years. So I just get a "beater" with good gas mileage. Put about 100K miles on it. Then get another one.

Pros:
I can park anywhere and not worry about something happening to it.
Insurance on them are cheap as hell.
Repairs are cheap as hell.
No monthly car note.
Beggars don't hit me up for money when I pull up to the gas station

Cons:
Due to age, make, and/or color, they're typically driven by African Americans. Which means extra attention is paid to you by police.
It's embarrassing to run into someone you haven't seen in a while with it.
You get a "bad one" and everything breaks all at once.
