I know the crane operators on the docks around New Orleans/ Baton Rouge make 6 figures.
Of course that’s nothing compared to the average yearly salary on the OT of Eleven Billion, but it’s good if you’re a poor baw.

I mean if your life's goal is "picking up shite" , you can't do much better. I know the field is competitive, because like every kid, I dreamed of picking shite up when I was a kid too. It was like:
1. Pick up shite
2. Batman
3. Power Forward for the Utah Jazz

I love all types of operators on the job site. Their job is to sit inside the cabin. If you ask them to do anything else they'll gladly tell you their job title.

hate short sighted bullshite like this in a work environment. My company pays better than most but because everyone is expected to help everyone else within reason. I have put product together before delivering it myself, and I'm a salesman.
Some companies don't want people doing anything other than what they pay them for, so I get it, but people who will say shite like that are asking to never be promoted. If promotion is not a possibility and they have hit their ceiling, so be it. Still a Richard move

Is there a promotion up from crane operator? That's pretty much all they're asked to do. I mean I guess they could hit all the stops on the crane and go tie onto their own loads if they wanted.

Depends on the job. I’m on a time and materials job at Exxon right now. If I do a helpers job, that’s one less helper they need to hire. I don’t mind helping a person struggling, but do I need to help a multi million dollar company by doing more than my job.
I’m also 57 years old with tendinitis in my elbows. My plan to be able to use those elbows if I last to 80 was to become a crane operator. I’m also an advanced rigger when I can’t find a seat.
If you’re serious, it is a good job. Hard work by most construction professions is replaced with the stress of controlling the situation. A welder messes up, cut it out and reweld. A crane operator messes up it can be on you tube and involve fatalities.
Plenty of crane jobs in the plants and 100k is not uncommon if you don’t mind OT.

Cost of living. In BR range is $32 for maintenance jobs up to $40 for some TAs. Per diem can add a lot. I’m making $36 on a projects job.

Poor?
That’s almost $73,000 a year with no overtime!

Do whatever you need to do to take care of you and your family. Ignore all the other haters who are going to secretly googling "how to become a crane operator" when they saw that $35/hr.
