I recall some jackass stole a gun out of the Academy in Alexandria a few years ago and the employees chased him down a football field away as he tried to hop a fence into the woods.

They were likely all fired

They were fired. I posted the link above.

the black ladies at albertson's self check out watch you like a hawk lol...no bs going on there...

I worked at an Albertsons for a couple of summers in the mid 90's. The managers there were bulldogs with shoplifters. I saw a good number get carted away by the police. Only once did I ever see a manager let one go....it was a woman who stuffed a bunch of jars of baby food in her jacket. It was all that she was stealing. The manager felt bad for her, said take what you have and don't come back.

One time I chased a dude through the mall and into the parking lot after he shoplifted from where I was working. This was in the 80s. When I realized I was not going to catch him (I was pretty fast) I turned around to go back toward the mall. About 15 of his buddies were chasing me the whole time and were all grinning as they started encircling me. I went for the bigger guy because he was directly in my path to get back into the mall. I was throwing haymakers but they handily beat my arse.

When I got back into the mall, all the guards were waiting, and watching, from inside the doors. They said they weren’t legally protected outside of the mall. They also said they thought I was going to get killed.

I worked at sears in the 80's. Our loss prevention guy caught a fatty stealing a VCR. She took if off the display and put it up her dress and was walking out with her thighs holding it up. He stopped her and she said she "didnt have nuttin" and then the cord fell out and landed on the ground. She tried to run but the guy just grabbed the cord and snatched it out from under her, making her fall and hurt her knee.

Today he would have been arrested and sued civilly but in the 80's he just grabbed it and walked back in saying "fat fricking thief".

The 80's were great.

But paying a cop $40/hr to sit out front probably would be much more than what they lose in a year to theft, therefore they pick their poison
they don't lose it, the customers pay it. This is all factored into pricing.
