How is a post on Facebook an infringement on the first amendment? Facebook posts mean the government is establishing a state religion?????
It's not, and anyone who believes it is or agrees with this ruling is a fricking moron. And I'd say that if the roles were reversed too.

I don't believe in hitting women and speak out against those who do.

There was no ruling. The County settled.

It's terrifying that you can vote; and that it counts as much as mine. Please tell me that you haven't reproduced.

I'd blame the atheists for the bullshite lawsuit, but the pussies went and settled and basically gave them validation for their bullshite claims.

I always thought being an atheist meant you firmly believe there are no gods, and being an agnostic meant you aren't sure until evidence proves one way or the other
Think of it as a sliding scale. On the one hand you have someone who 100% positively think there is a god and on the other you have someone who 100% thinks there is not. As with most things, anyone that is 100% certain of a completely unprovable assertion needs to be discounted out of hand, because they are simply not an honest player. so you're left with people who are 99% either way and the gamut in between as being those who can have this conversation.
I'm not saying there are NO atheists who will positively claim there are no gods. I'm saying that they are being as idiotic as those that claim to know for sure there are. In most cases, they are simply being dicks to get a rise out of the believers, to be honest. Those high profile atheists that piss off so many believers...the Dawkins, Harris, Hitchins of the world...none of them hold the position they are certain there are no gods.
I tend to think of agnosticism as a 50/50 position if you will. Could be, could maybe not be. I'm not that. I see zero evidence there are gods, so I have to label myself as a a-theist. That does not mean I'm not open to the possibility that I may be wrong, but the type of evidence I'd need is not the sort that gods seem willing to part with these days...

Probably, because after 200 years of letting people be and being conservative with religious freedom, suddenly we've decided we need to shake things up to protect idiots and money seekers.

So stupid.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Right?
Atheism is not a religion...it addresses religion, but it is not one.
Honestly, atheism is kind of an unnecessary word. it only exists in a world where theism exists. It's a counter-punch...a response to the affirmative position of theism.
Take Big Foot. A lot of people believe in Big Foot, right? Fine. Show me. Prove to me that Big Foot exists, and then I'll believe it does too. In the meantime, I'll say I do not think it exists because the burden of proof lies with the Big Foot enthusiast who has made the positive claim of it's existence. In this case, I'd be an abigfootist...and so would most reasonable people.
Is that now a religion? Obviously not...it's a commentary on the belief asserted by others.

The idea that government censoring one side of a debate being held on a ostensibly government run webpage runs afoul of the first amendment isn't any kind of "shake up."
I mean ultimately I don't give a shite about posts on a rural Sheriff's Department Facebook page, but this isn't any kind of a new issue.
The government generally cannot censor one side of a debate. This isn't any kind of new concept in American jurisprudence.

State actor using state property to "respect an establishment of religion." In this case, Christianity with his Easter message. Hence, the lawsuit and subsequent settlement.

Had he posted this on his personal Facebook page, acting as a private citizen, this would have been what would have protected his actions. The government could not have prohibited his free exercise on his own property.
Easy peasy.

The "government" wasn't censoring shite. Can I sue the government if a dmv worker tells me to be quiet? Absurd.
Posted on 8/16/16 at 3:46 pm to GRTiger
That's a viewpoint neutral restriction based on area not generally used for debate.
Also if you are government employee or official manipulating an official county Facebook page then you are acting as the government.
I'm not saying this actually is worth a lawsuit, but you could have sued for this same thing decades ago if Facebook existed.

You literally have to change the first amendment to make this a first amendment issue. Try not to.

So the government is giving equal representation on facebook to all of the religions of its constituents?
If so, why do we get Easter posts but no Ramadan posts?

Who gives a shite? There are probably majority Jewish or Muslim towns that do this. Still not a 1A issue unless you apply the fricked up interpretation that is too often applied today.
