I sold a vehicle to Carmax. I didn't want to deal with selling privately, and I already had another vehicle, so trade in wasn't an option. They offered 3K more than the highest offer from the local dealerships/private auto traders. They'll inspect it, input all specs/details/pictures into their national system and the guys in the big markets will determine the offer price. Once I agreed, they handed me a check and that was it. It took an about 2 hours start to finish.

All I need to do is a bill of sale with the buyer, remove the plate and sign the back of the title and leave the notary stuff up to them right???

I did this once.

About 6 months later the cops were knocking on my front door one night. The car had been used in a robbery at a gas station. Title was still in my name.

Luckily, I had a bill of sale and wrote down the buyers info from his DL.

Just sold one via Marketplace. Only took about 3 days, several low ball " cash in hand" offers for sure. When they offer you X without even looking at it in person, you know it's bad news. Even had a few ask if they could make monthly payments to me... ummmm no!
