My brother downloaded a bunch of old 8 mm movies my parents took back when we were kids.
This was one shot back in 1969 at my grandparents beach house in Waveland. Probably the last footage of it before it was destroyed by Camille
My dad and his friends loved to drink and have a good time. This is him sticking out his gut on the right, acting stupid for the camera. Man, I really miss him...
My mom and her friends went joy riding in a little Larson tri hull we had, the dads stayed back and drank.

Digitizing a huge batch of video you haven't seen in decades and alot you've forgotten about is a gut check unlike any other when you first hit "play".
I was sobbing like a baby when I got back my movies. Just had to be alone the first time I watched them through because the emotions you didn't know you even had surfaced with a vengeance.
Yep. My Grandmother, who was no less important than my Grandfather - but you know how loved Grandfathers are to the younger version of you - was also in so many of them. You never forget what their voices sounded like. I think I've watched 10-15 times since.
Then I started paying attention to other things like the house itself. A lot of the Christmas ones were at my Grandfather's house. Seeing the inside of it and how things were arranged brought back so much that memory didn't store. My daughter saw some of the pictures/paintings and then went and found them in my house.
Out of all the dogs I've had over the years, my favorite of all was on there. Another dusty room moment.

Your dad would have been considered obese back in the day. Today he looks fit.
Run that through AI and let it clean up some of that blurry video and keep both versions.

That's the tangible part of the connection and the time machine that proves it was real.

He was 33, it was probably the biggest he was, about 236, as he got older, he began to get in shape again and dropped down to 175.

Nostalgia - its delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek nostalgia literally means “the pain from an old wound.” It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn’t a spaceship, it’s a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards… it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the wheel, it’s called the carousel. It lets us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved.
Don Draper
One of the best moments from that show.
