My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November. If your friend has ovarian cancer, she needs to go to a gynecological oncologist. This is the most important thing she can do at this point. It is a very complicated disease. This disease is very serious. I can't believe she was told to do chemo to be safe. Taxol and Carboplatin are a given with ovarian cancer.
If you are close to them, please tell them to go to specialist at MD Anderson or the Mayo Clinic. I am sorry and praying for your neighbor
It is very scary. My mom had perfect blood work and was doing great 4 weeks before her diagnosis.

so, chemo actually targets cancer cells and is not just a "shotgun" approach?
That's definitely the goal. What scientists are trying tirelessly to develop. But still more shotgun than laser precision, unfortunately.

Frick cancer....
Agreed. It's awful. Have a parent fighting it now. The doctor said she can't be cured, the chemo is just buying time.
To top it off she was hit by a drunk driver a few weeks ago and on bed rest for a month so she doesn't break her back (cancer has spread to her spine). Actually flying out to see her tomorrow and help out a bit.
When it rains it pours for some people.

What turns my stomach is the cocksucker downvoting all of these posts.
Eat a cancer dick. Bitch.

Chemo just to be safe? It doesn't work that way.
I think they mean to try to kill any cancer cells that may still be there but can’t be detected on a scan.

From what her husband told me this is basically why they are doing chemo. Granted I didn't want him to have to spill all the details as I could see he was dealing with enough already. Will have to see how it goes, but many thanks to all for the input . Alot of good info to keep in mind for the future.

Not to hijack but they just found a grapefruit size tumor in my liver and a 2 inch tumor in my pancreas. I'm in limbo. I have an appointment with the oncologist Wednesday. I'm absolutely terrified. My back and stomach have been hurting for awhile now. I just assumed it was kidney stones and tried to tough it out.
