You say that and it's easy to say after the fact. But really in a situation like that your more worried about your kid at that exact moment than seeking some kind of revenge.

In my old neighborhood there was a German Shepard that used to bark and growl as I would run by.

One day i was with my lab and he came at my dog. When he grabbed my dogs face I kicked the crap (Brad wing style) in the kidneys right in front of the back legs and never again had a problem with that dog.

The owner came out all worried but I was cool.

The dog is supposed to be quarantined when it attacks and breaks the skin. Doesn't have to be a bite. The fact the owners walked off so fast tells me the dog is known to animal control. The ER is required to report dog attacks and bites to animal control.
