What does their method of propulsion have to do with anything?
It has to do with whether there's any chance in hell they'd be crawling up at a snail's pace using that big old defenseless platform if they were going if they were actually going to launch a strike on our homeland.

12 miles out with the potential to carry nuclear weapons, you are right, who cares about those old arse turboprops.
How do you think China feels when we drove a carrier thru the Taiwan Strait? Or when we operate in the East and South China seas like it's no big deal?

Like we don't have that much to gain by attacking them. Do you think Russia feels the same about us?
And a twin prop plane that got within 40 miles could get over land before we intercepted it if that's what they were trying to do

About what?
I don't believe this was meant as anything aggressive, but it does show they can get too close for comfort

Just people doubting that it happened. This is normal practice and happens often. They were most likely not armed. We do the same thing to China and Russia. It's just showing of presence

July 4th probably isn't the best day to be messing with us though

We don't need to intercept a plane like that to easily neutralize it, and we don't intercept it immediately upon knowledge of its presence in our ADIZ either. This is a non-issue, and that plane is a non-threat. And the fact that it turned around 40 miles isn't really material, either. They could have gone another 20 in and more and been perfectly justified. We do stuff right at the border of other countries' territorial waters all the time just to remind them we can.
On another note, it sure was thoughtful of that pilot to wish our guys a happy 4th.

I think those Russians are always snooping around the in the Gulf of Mexico.

While I find the entire situation fishy. The RUS bomber never crossed into American area space.
