MOSCOW — Russia flexed its muscles again over Syria on Friday, for the first time launching cruise missiles at targets from warships in the Mediterranean Sea days after beginning bombing runs from a base in Iran.
quote:
Taken together, the new military moves appeared to be a demonstration that Russia has the ability to strike from virtually all directions in a region where it has been reasserting its power — from Iran, from warships in the Caspian Sea, from its base in the Syrian coastal province of Latakia and now from the Mediterranean.
quote:
Talks appear to have stalled between Russia and the United States on a proposal to carry out joint operations in Syria against militant groups both countries consider terrorist. Russian and Syrian government airstrikes have intensified lately, with no progress on the horizon for a political solution to end the war. While both Russia and the United States say they share the goal of defeating the Islamic State group in Syria, they are waging parallel but separate wars against the militant group while simultaneously backing opposite sides in the conflict between Russia’s ally, President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, and his other opponents, including rebels backed by the United States.

Russia better be careful before Obama sends in the Coast Guard to attack them.

Deal with iran
Russia flying bombing missions out of there inside of a year
Awesome!
Wonder if the hitch stillhas her reset button
Possibly the most cringeworthy moment in diplomatic history

Hell, want another silver lining? It gives us and the rest of the world a front row seat to what Russia has. They've been modernizing and spending a lot on defense. If they want to show it off then let them. It's a great learning opportunity for the United States. (Just as our adversaries watched and learned from us since the end of the Cold War)

naw the Ruskies are just using up old ammo like shooting a 20year old brick of .22 in a cow carcass

I believe they use a mix of old shite and new shite, not too different from us actually.

It's all new stuff. Russia is using live ammo and targets to show off their new stuff and then selling them to countries like India, turkey, Brazil, Indonesia, China etc.

Not sure how modernized Russian airpower is that but I believe that jet that Turkey shot down a number of months ago was an SU-24, which was in production from 1967-1993.
Again, I don't know how modern the equipment on board was but it was old gun.

I mean Russia is fighting isis and in favor of keeping in power the dictator that is providing stability and keeping things from getting out of control right?
You know what we should've been doing with Al Quada and Saddam in the first place?

Syria is conveniently nearby.
Russia would have a very hard time projecting power somewhere else.
