God forbid people take advantage of the schools they are already paying for

Ah never mind, you just don’t have a clue what you are talking about

St Michael will be the first of those three to fall. They have so many non Catholics already and the vouchers will Watertown down even more. See Redemptorist. It’s a matter of time at this point.

Ummm what? Not a chance. The catholic grammar schools are bursting at the seams. Look at St. Aloysius, St. George, etc... they’re not going anywhere. Look at the northshore? Great public schools, but St. Paul’s, SSA are still thriving. There’s always going to be a market for good catholic and private schools.

I really hate this excuse... “use tax funded schools because I already pay for it”

You do realize that it takes the tax dollars of MANY people to cover your kids tax funded education.. right??? So you are ok with the taking of other people’s money to use for your child. YOUR taxes that YOU pay cover a smidgeon of YOUR kids education.,like I said, people have become accustomed to “free” shite and that’s clearly what the government wants.,The I pay for it so I use it argument is getting old.

I'm glad you brought this up. As a single person it pisses me off that I have to pay taxes for someone else's child to go to school. Not only that but here in Florida school taxes don't quality for the homestead exemption so the second biggest thing I pay property taxes on is school taxes. Taxes on a service I'll never use.

I honestly feel like single people should be allowed to not pay school taxes. Heck I'd even get a vasectomy. You wanted a child, pay for your child's education.

Wow, lot to digest here I’m not even sure where to start. The I pay taxes so would like to use the systems they go towards is “getting old?” What the frick does that even mean?

I don’t even have kids but don’t mind the money I pay going towards schools for other children. It’s the price I pay to live in a civilized society. Crazy, I know.

The problem is the local government would rather spend that money elsewhere, but that’s another thread

What are you actually so upset about? Because it can’t be taxpayers using tax funded programs. That wouldn’t make any sense

Oh wow there is actually a poster arguing that it’s a bad thing that public schools options are improving and taking kids away from private schools. That’s insanity. It’s the dream scenario for any community that public options become improved enough that kids choose them over other private options

*Kat Williams WTF face*

So you telling me that I’m wrong for me to be a regular middle class person, living in a regular middle class neighborhood and wanting to send my kid to a public school RIGHT AROUND the corner from my house, in part of MY TAX DOLLARS pay for?

So you guess I’m wrong from going to the public library, or the BREC park as well?

As a single person I'm good with paying the same amount in property taxes but I wish we had the option to essentially say "I don't want my taxes going to schools and would like those taxes to go into the general fund".

At least then my taxes might pay for things like emergency services or road repairs. Services I might actually use.
