One of the first signs that the virus was going to cause a collective psychotic event for the US was when people thought it was a good idea to release prison inmates for fear of covid. Release people who are essentially already quarantined back into the population where (presumably) they'll isolate themselves and socially distance, lol.

It makes no sense even leaving aside the criminal aspect.

Then it got worse when they actually started releasing inmates even more and yet arresting regular people for doing things like breaking curfew.

For profit prisons aint gonna like this

Not really. What happen is they started releasing the wrong people on purpose. They did that troll thing people in charge of justice sometimes do to purposefully cause problems when they don't feel like they are getting the attention they deserve.
Oh hey I'm so and so judge and I'm not getting the attention I feel like I deserve so I better flex my power by doing a ruling that is totally wrong and will outrage people or cause problems.
If you feel like some tiny charge should be a death sentence to people because of Coronavirus I guess you are free to argue that though.
