Did you enlist to be security forces? I bet your recruiter put it in your head that you'd be FAST.

My recruiter had me thinking I was going to be on a FAST team and that it was some badass shite, plus as an added bonus, I’d have an extra year of active duty on my contract.
Were you security forces?

Well I guess guard duty at Bangor or King's Bay is still better than 8th & I.

No. I heard plenty of horror stories though from the line company guys whenever they'd get a Cpl off of security forces.

Probably.. That medal was handed out like Motrin.

I’d happily take a bullet in the gut over one day on 8th & I.
Also, it is funny how almost everyone that went security forces only did it to get to FAST, then spent two years guarding nukes on a naval base. Screw that too.

Lol, yeah I’ve heard some of those as well and could see where it would be a serious adjustment trying to lead a squad coming straight out of security forces.
Luckily, I didn’t pick up cpl until about a year after I had dropped into my plt. As soon as I picked up Cpl, they sent me to Infantry Squad leader’s course, but there were already 3 sitting SGTs in our plt, so the highest I made was team leader.

The Air Force is a lot like a regular job while wearing a uniform. The Navy is like the Air Force, just on a ship. The Army is what everyone thinks of when they think of a job in the military without specification. That is why folks call people from any of the armed forces "soldiers". Army personnel hate this. The Army will always be a part of person that served or even retired from the Army, but it doesn't really define who they "are". A former Marine (discharged or retired) will generally always consider themselves a Marine first and whatever they are doing now as a subset of their existence. They BECAME a Marine and you can never take that from them; it will never be the second thing they are. The person that wrote this was a school teacher that retired from the Army. A Marine would be a Marine that happens to teach school now.
That's a great comparison. My life doesn't revolve around the military, that's why I could never be a Marine and never soft enough to ever be an airmen or sailor. Even though the Army is getting quite soft themselves.

I’ve been told the guys who couldn’t get security clearances lucked out and got FAST. They should let the top grads security forces school have a choice.

Tactical Turtleneck told me that he thought the FAST teams were pretty high speed. He worked with a couple of them and thought they were damn solid.
