Rod Bernard (August 12, 1940 – July 12, 2020) was an American singer who helped to pioneer the musical genre known as "swamp pop", which combined New Orleans-style rhythm and blues, country and western, and Cajun and black Creole music. He is generally considered one of the foremost musicians of this south Louisiana-east Texas idiom, along with such notables as Bobby Charles, Johnnie Allan, Tommy McLain, and Warren Storm.

RIP Rod - I met him several times. He finished high school with my late wife.

Honestly, I thought he'd died years ago. I never really liked that genre of music, but I sure as hell listened to a lot of it having beers with my dad at numerous bars in Southwest Louisiana on the way home after a day of hunting or fishing.

Just bought my father-in-law some of his records for Father’s Day. He lost some of his collection as a kid and those were his favorites. RIP Mr. Bernard.

I saw on the food board that K-Paul's Restaurant is closing. Rod Bernard and Paul Prudhomme (along with my late wife) were classmates together in Opelousas.

So Rod was the Opelousas Sostan.
