Aaron has been living in Houston since Katrina......so there’s that.

Pretty sure he has some sort of cancer or respiratory disease that requires him to be close to MD Anderson for treatments.

Sad news. Great musician. I'm glad I got to see him a couple of times before he left us.

Rough week for NOLA. I live in Raleigh, and it is a nice enough place, but NOLA lost more legends this week than Raleigh has produced in the last century.

I saw Dr. John chillin' in Lafayette Square one time, laid out on the steps of the main statue, chillin as usual. He was on the phone and when I walked by and pointed at him he put the phone to the side, looked at me and said "take care'a ya'self"..then resumed his call.

Dr. John is absolutely a Nola icon, bro.

Nothing personal. I just don’t think we should put up a statue and crown him as an icon of New Orleans.
Well you’re in a very small minority

Louis Armstrong lived (AND is buried) in Queens, N.Y. ...I guess he's not a N.O. icon either.

That’s right. I got it mixed up.

Cool story

He may be one icon but he’s nothing more special than the previous artist I mentioned.

He could have been and meant much more to the city had he stuck around or at least visited more. It’s ashamed that he sold out like he did.

Mac's sister, mother, nieces and nephews lived in Orange, CA. Why shouldn't he have lived there?

My dad's first cousin married Mac's sister. If the majority of my family lived elsewhere, I think I would move too.

Can't judge a person by where they make their home because it is ALWAYS where the heart is.

Cause he didn’t give a shite about New Orleans and wanted to better himself.

I cant blame him for that at all.

But that doesn’t give him icon status.

Will Little Wayne be a New Orleans icon in 30 years?

What about Juvenile?

He was told by the DA's office to not go to, or through, the city of New Orleans.

The DA chased the music scene out of New Orleans, so Mac chose LA because that's where the majority of his musician friends ended up.
