Also in the women's health pelvic floor mesh issue--the mesh caused severe infections/UTI's. No antibiotic worked for the UTI's. D-Mannose (now with cran-actin) which has an explanation of how it works that is so interesting-- did work.

Yes. Vaginal flora (similar to microbiome mindset) also matters in this

Loss of estrogen in a peri/postmenopausal woman influences this (flora and UTI risk)

This may seem tangential, but it reinforces an important theme in this thread:

not all bacteria are “bad”

Some are needed for defensive purposes

Liberal use of pelvic floor physical therapy has helped offset the need for injudicious use of mesh. The do it yourself approach would be to do yoga

Yes, let's live like our ancestors....to age 45 with horrific diseases decimating populations.

We don't need to eat like fricking cave people. We need to cut out sugar and processed foods.

We don't need to live outside. We just need to be more active with a healthy dose of outdoor activities.

We don't need to reset our Circadian rhythms...these rhythms are not the same for every person. We just need to make sure we get a solid 6-8 hours of solid sleep each day.

It astounds me how some folks point to the hunter-gatherer phase of humanity as some sort of beacon of ultimate health.

We agree on many things you just posted.

You presume too much about the past. You do realize that currently in 2018 there are highly “advanced” societies while at same time very primitive folks still living in isolation (ironically, we study some of them because they have extremly low disease risk)

South American tribe found to have the healthiest hearts ever studied

A South American tribe with a highly active lifestyle has the healthiest arteries of any population yet studied, say researchers. The Tsimane people, who live in the Bolivian Amazon, spend most of every day hunting, fishing, farming and gathering wild fruits and nuts, and follow a carbohydrate-based diet containing little protein and fat. Scientists who examined hundreds of men and women from the group found that almost nine out of 10 had clear arteries showing no risk of heart disease. Even in old age most remained in astonishingly good health.

Almost two thirds of people aged over 75 were nearly risk free and just eight per cent had a moderate-to-high risk level. One 80-year-old had arteries resembling those of Americans in their mid-fifties. The American lead scientist, Professor Hillard Kaplan, from the University of New Mexico, said: "Our study shows that the Tsimane indigenous South Americans have the lowest prevalence of coronary atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries) of any population yet studied.

The book I posted earlier in this thread by Weston Price chronicles the health of these native cultures. You should read it as you may have some unfounded biases due in large part from the uniformitarian sect of the church of progress...

No, I am not encouraging everyone to be “cavemen”. This is likely a made up meme anyways. That is a discussion for another time...

The Tsimane diet largely consists of non-processed carbohydrates high in fibre, such as rice, plantain, manioc, corn, nuts and fruits.

Protein, from animal meat, accounts for only 14 per cent of the diet and fat makes up the same proportion.
Interesting...

That is why I stated “ancestral diet”. Where are your from and what did you evolve to eat? Lots of different templates for different folks (which makes a one size fits all diet difficult to recommend).

I have my own macronutrients biases due to my heritage. Their diet would not fit me.

There are broad strokes that apply to most:

eating non-processed natural foods (as these folks do)

Notice the emphasis on high fiber (and remember how this selects for a healthy microbiome which in turn reduces inflammation). Inflammation is the key driver of vascular health (not the antiquated cholesterol centric model which suffered immensely from correlation/causation problems)
