being right off the end of the runway has me considering mechanical issue.

I’m guessing a stall due to acrobatic maneuvering. Engine out should not result in a nose down crash with an experienced pilot. But who knows. The NTSB will investigate and report eventually.

To your point RT, it seems like the media in most markets play nice with each other despite being competitors. Because you never know who might be your next potential employer.

If you are a Bob Breck or a Carl Arredondo then your seat is probably safe for as long as you want it to be. These other meteorologists are not going to bash each other in public because it never serves one well to burn any bridges or start any fires for future opportunities. Young people starting out in the job market should realize that. Never bad mouth your competition or your current employer.

The Advocate | NOLA.com is reporting that the plane was having engine troubles

quote:

Franklin Augustus, the veteran stunt pilot who died Friday in a plane crash along with WVUE Fox 8 anchor Nancy Parker, radioed the controller at Lakefront Airport shortly after takeoff to say he was having problems, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement Saturday.

According to the NTSB — the federal agency responsible for investigating the crash — the controller gave Augustus clearance to return to the airport, but at about 3:06 p.m., his lightweight Aerotek Pitts S-2B two-seat biplane went down near the 7300 block of Jourdan Road in New Orleans East. Both Augustus and Parker died in the crash.

The NTSB reported witnesses said the plane “appeared to have engine problems shortly after takeoff,” with the plane then pitching down and hitting the ground.

Knowing how the media reports aviation subjects nose down was probably actually a 10 degree descent. Just read that he notified tower of mechanical issue and was cleared to return to airport.
