fricking Hurricane Bob! I was working for a service company ~85 miles offshore on a drillship when Bob was approaching. They decided to evacuate non-essential personnel and started flying people out. I don't remember how deep we were, but our tool was on the bottom of the drill string and we were waiting to secure it. It was a sickening feeling to watch the last helicopter fly out near dusk without me on it.
Overnight the ship was rocking and we could hear the thrusters running much more than normal. At dawn I went topside to check the weather. It was stormy, but just kind of shitty day, not a hurricane. Tbey ended up putting about a dozen of us (with no baggage or tools) on a Hueyy and flying us out a little while later.
We hit the bank and it was blue skies. Bob was a big nothing burger in N.O., but I was happy to be off of that ship.

Summer before Camille my Mom and Dad had to choose between moving to Gulfport or Mobile. Moved to Mobile. Remember driving from Mobile to New Orleans for Super Bowl IV and saying the boats on the north side of Hwy 90.
