They are over priced and very popular, personally I dont think the have the high fidelity or quality drivers of like priced systems. Many times they don’t even have true tweeters, just ports and smaller drivers.

But that’s just my ears, to each their own and please don’t take my opinion as offensive....it’s just my take.

You think of headphones as an investment? I don’t think you understand what an investment really is

Bought the Sennheisser HD4.5 and then was given the Bose QC35 a couple months later. Fly a lot. The QC35 blows the HD4.5 out of the water for noise cancelling. Can’t speak for the sound quality as I’m not an OT licensed autophile.

Good to know, I rarely fly so more interested in SQ. Guess if NC is priority, Bose may be best.

I’ll agree that Bose don’t sound the best. I think my wired Beats sounded better and people shite all over those too. But if the primary function is for noise cancellation, the Bose are amazing. You don’t realize how loud a plane is until you use noise cancellation headphones. The Bose app is good for managing connected sources (only 2 active connections). The slide button allows you to quickly cycle through connected sources. I use mine for conference calls and cell calls and no one has said anything about my voice quality.

I picked up the BeatsX earbuds the other day at Best Buy for like $80. They did surprisingly well on flights this week and sound really good. Battery life is good.

The Bose noise cancelling headphones are probably the best tech purchase I've ever made. I got mine about 8 years ago now and still use them almost daily. Only thing I've replaced is the foam padding for like $15 and obviously batteries. Just spend a little more and get them.

I have the Cowin E7’s and like them a lot. I use them while I cut the grass and use tools outside. They’re some of the best reviewed budget NC headphones. I think I paid $50 for them.

As an "anti-Bose" guy, I can echo that it is the consensus overall "best choice" in this particular category. In fact, the advantages almost outweigh the key disadvantage - Bose isn't particularly good at reproducing music for many folks' ears (some folks like it, I admit that). This is also true of their QC line of headphones. As good an overall package the QC35s are, I think the Sonys have them beat, by a nose. The Sonys aren't without problem- the first model had reports of cracking bands that the company was slow to address/make right. Sonys aren't the best choice if you go from device to device, relative to the Bose which has software to make this relatively seamless.

IF I were to use the cans solely for voice (podcasts/audiobooks) or film, I would almost certainly go with the Bose. As it is - and I'm buying in the next 60 days - I'm leaning Sony, slightly. (Full disclosure, I've been researching this purchase for well over a year.)
