What do you recommend for a very small, but very fire resistant safe? Does such a thing exist?

What you're looking for is called a safe deposit box. It comes with state of the art security systems and a fire suppression system.

If you want something in your home and are willing to sacrifice security for portability and accessibility, look for something like a Honeywell lock box that is waterproof and has a good fire rating. I have one that is tested good for 1700F for 1 hour.

If you require security, fire, and water protection, then you're going to spend some serious coin on a good safe, getting it delivered, getting it mounted, etc. Just remember that nothing will be guaranteed to protect your stuff if it's in the middle of a raging fire for several hours. That kind of protection is really where you get back to safe deposit boxes.

I've got the Honeywell for some things and the box for others. Everything in them gets vacuum sealed to protect against fire fighting efforts.

Good luck!

Sure, or you can be like me. Hedge your bet that the fire will happen while you're home and toss that fricker out the window before you check on your kids....and wife.

Im not trying to hide shite from a burgler. I'm trying to lock away ammo, maybe a pistol if I'm feeling cute, some bolts from rifles, to keep away from children, and as long as I have a safe for this purpose, might as well put some passports and bc's in it, if it has some kind of fire rating.

so, a-hole, not only can you not spell BURGLAR, you want something cheap to protect some of the most important things you own?

how many wheels does your home have?

Go to tractor supply and just pick out the one you like.

They are all about the same despite each brand having its fanboys.

I have a 64 gun Canon and a 48 gun whatever their store brand is and there aint much difference in them to be honest, I may like the cheap store brand better TBH.

Just be sure to buy one way bigger than you think you will need cause it will not be big enough.

You are almost in the right spot, this topic should be asked in the outdoor boards. You'll get useful replies as opposed to the usual O-T banter

Use a large 1928 safe at the office. 6 inch thick outer door, inside locking steel door plus locked safety deposit style boxes inside. Stuff inside is not worth 500 bucks lol.

Check out the lock picking lawyer on youtube... he picks locks and safes and all kinds of stuff... some of them are incredibly easy to get into... at least you'll know what not to get

I'll take that L. Was too focused on the "AR" ending correction. Karma is a swift bitch.

Keeping guns and ammo away from a child is a product worth having.

Yes it is.

However,
quote:

Keeping guns and ammo away from a child

indefinitely is probably an act of futility unless you are indefinitely vigilant, and no person is indefinitely vigilant.

Teach a kid what a gun is, and, most importantly, what it can do to, say, a watermelon (let alone his skull) and teach that kid that if he wants to fiddle with the gun then he can ask and you'll readily oblige: Then he can have tons-a-fun shooting it with his pop instead of wondering about its capability.

Curiosity killed the cat.

Furthermore, assuming that the situation arises (you know, Murphy's Law and all that inconvenient nonsense), then teach the kid that if he ever handles the gun without asking there will be hell to pay- specifically no more range time with the "super neat" gun. You know: instilling a sense of responsibility into a little future adult. (We're all wired with it.)

Aside from common sense, the facts show that the kid in question will be far less likely to tinker with the mechanized death object; which is something he should be aware of via dad's hands-on teaching, because that's what it will bring if not used correctly: death.

As a child, I knew these exact things.

It's one of the very few things that my father did correctly; one of the few things he instilled into me through direct action.

And on one sunny spring day, it saved my life, and on another it likely saved my life again.

To answer your OP: any safe that keeps important shite away from thieves, fire, and kids... indefinitely, is a good safe. I've heard lots of good things about liberty safes. Hell I know of one that survived a direct hit from an EF4 where all that was left was the slab and the safe.

That's a pretty safe "safe" if you ask me.
