I feel like civil consulting is chugging along if not picking up. We can't find enough junior staff at the moment in SELA.
Edit for 2.7 GPA...even civil has some standards.

As rig counts continue to increase those jobs continue to grow also

Probably not. I doubt he'll find anything on the drilling side.

That's because I've seen the people you hire. Not the brightest but sure know how to interview well, put on an act while in the job...and that's about it.

Are they still looking? Do some have jobs? What did they do differently.
The majority in the program that have jobs got them from previous internships. Still though, I have a friend with better grades than me who is still looking.
I have participated in that program, but the job I was offered and banking on was unfortunately rescinded before I graduated.
I will definitely participate in LSU's career website if that's still an option for me in the fall. I have already looked at many of the job postings on Careers2Geaux and emailed them independently.

With 2.7 gpa and, most likely, a white male you will not get a production or reservoir engineer position. Look for a field engineer role with slb, Halliburton, or baker Hughes. You'll have to do service work and most likely look for jobs in west Texas, San Antonio, or northern Permian. Look for wireline work and someone willing to train you. Apply for Houston jobs and make it known your willing to relocate.

Alright good. That's you best bet. They should let you fully participate.
Also look for AAPG conferences in Houston.

Are you looking in Gulf Region only, or looking at other places, like Dakotas, etc?

We're getting calls almost daily for guys looking for jobs. We've even had a few call and offer to work for free.

Ohh yea it's rough. I'm just enjoying my summer off and looking but not desperate to jump on with someone just to work. I like to stay put with one company. Gonna choose wisely.

I've honestly applied everywhere across the board. After searching Halliburton's job openings I've applied to work anywhere from Venezuela to the Middle East.
I have an interview coming up for a Field Coordinator position for a SWD operation in Colorado. The pay is not good at all and its working nights 7days on 7 days off - not really enough for me to relocate to a strange Colorado town. But if thats all I can get, I'll do what I have to do. I don't know if the SWD position will give me significant future career options but I'll take what I can get.

You never know. Oilfield is a small world and sometimes you run into people you never expect to see again.

Should I lower my standards and work in a roughnecking type labor intensive position while I gain experience and wait out the downturn?
