Re-Staining Wood

I've got some columns and doors that need to be re-stained. The color is fading, but there is no peeling. Is the best thing to do to get started to pressure wash them? I tested on a small section last week and after drying, the wood seems to be stripped back to it's natural state, albeit light grey in color now. Should I just do that, lightly sand, rinse, let dry, and stain it? Or just burn the place down?

Scrub with TSP, let them dry out real good, sand to the bone, restain and seal. Pretty easy process if the original stain doesn't run too deep in the grain. You might try the new stain on the inside of a column first to see how it sets before staining the side that faces away from the house. Jmo. 
ETA: Be careful pressure washing, sometimes the spray can feather the wood grain and you'll end up with more work than you bargained for.
