Yes, I’m aware. I was pointing out that the CP was the only class 1 to not embargo those select hazardous chemicals.

I will put it to you like this. I didn't take an unpaid day off for 2 years. But when I did take 2 unpaid days in a 4 week period, an investigation was called and I received a reprimand. You are allowed 1 day off in a 12 week period if if falls next to a rest day, holiday or vacation.

I'm guessing most here did not know that.

Frankly, I'm surprised CN is. Perhaps only some of their unions are as it's train service contracts have been hourly for at least 15 years or so which was very different from the US roads.

What does unpaid mean? Like no-call no-show or you used up all your PTO/vacay/sick and just can't come in still?

Have to think that you get more than 4 days off a year.

The companies are just going to automate the trains. What is easier to automate than a train?

I’m not sure how much bargaining power these workers have in the long run.

I had plenty of days to use, but when you put in for the days you need off they tell you that those days are filled. You are denied. So you just call in sick or personal business. Most have resorted to getting FMLA.

Yeah, let's just send a train carrying hazmat out completely unmanned.

Jesus Christ some people.

Doesn't even remove human error from the equation. Just sets up potentially disastrous situations.

Automation of a train while running is probably pretty damn easy. Maybe a lot like autopilot in planes.

Automating transfer stations/switching stations/loading stations would be hard as hell.

Define long run. Because Biden is thinking November time frame. They sure as shite have leverage in that time frame.

That's one of the things outsiders don't understand. They say "Well, you get these personal days! What more do you want!"

They don't understand the company often won't let you use them. They're meaningless much of the time.

I don’t know why you think that’s so damn hard to do. Set gps based speed limits and you hardly need any human intervention while running at all… in theory.

Again, automating stations would be exceptionally difficult.

It's not like they want to understand. They see the word union and their programming just takes over.

A train is FAR easier to automate than a truck. You don't have to steer it or program it to avoid pedestrians just to start.

There's been automated railways since the 70's on isolated lines.

So yall only get 4 days of vacations per year?

That is wild

Would think it was easy enough to know everyone who could cover your position and call BS on only allowing yall 4 days of PTO a year.

Yall aren't getting credit for medical? Like, doctors excuse turned in medical? Isn't that federally protected?

Sorry, just some of this doesn't add up.

I had 4 weeks vacation and 11 personal leave days, the vacation weeks you have to schedule in November for the upcoming year and it is based on seniority. But the personal leave days have to be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. So if you have a family emergency or just can't come in, you have to call in. That's when you get into trouble.

So, a regular job.

How many times a year are you getting into this type of emergency?
