I wish I could find it.. but I read a report based on cellphone pings that the Youngsville youth complex was the third most visited in the state, only behind Tiger Stadium and the Superdome.

2021 Article of Financial Impacts in Acadiana This isn’t the same article, but a good one.

Always been surprised by the amount of money that Ascension has that they have the worst parks. You would have thought by now they would have built a complex close to Hwy 30. Take advantage of all the hotels near Lamar Dixon and easy access to I-10 from Baton Rouge and NO.

It becomes understandable when you have a slight understanding of AP culture and AP politics.

So several years ago there was a proposal to build a Major League Themed set of fields at Lamar Dixon. This included kayak launches ,walking trails, and other various outdoor activity infrastructure. The proposal came out to about ~$20M iirc and funded via a property millage increase.

Plus, the City of Gonzales claimed property up to Landry road bordering Lamar Dixon, which put tax revenues in the coffers of the City and the Citiy not having to do anything for the baseball complex.

Older people lamented about muh roads and muh drainage and the proposal was defeated.

I always felt as though paying for it via sales tax would have been more widely accepted.

I caught shite from an old geezer about why should he have to pay taxes for my kid to have a place to play baseball. That I should buy land and build my own field. Yet this frickstick lives in the swamp and needs my taxes to keep his house from flooding.

Not answering OP but on topic. Listened to a young mom convo about “why can’t we get really nice travel ball fields in town? I can’t believe everyone voted against that property tax”. Would yall support a property tax to build new fields? Seems nuts to me.

Pretty sure it’s what they did in Ruston.

I think they put an additional .5% sales tax on business that surround the facility and that’s how it was paid for.

Now those hotels and restaurants that pay that tax are slam packed every weekend of the year and they are booming.

Seems like a win for everyone.

Not sure how that wouldn’t work at Lamar Dixon area with all the hotels, restaurants, etc.

Sure seems like a lot of restaurants don’t make it in that area around the sports complex. Heard Pour closed too
