This is a novel virus only discovered within the last few months. There is now a test for the virus.
Seems that tests for new viruses would take longer than a matter of weeks to be developed and validated yet here it is.
So my question is:
Is there any data on how accurate the test is? Is it overly sensitive but not specific? Is it very specific but not sensitive?
How do we know any of these tests are reliable?
And I’m not trying to suggest the test isn’t. But is seems to have developed much faster than one would expect.

I'm a Stats guy. What's your Stats related question?

Coronavirus has been around for a long time. This strain is new of course and has transferred from animal to humans, so they have had the ability to test for it already.

That’s actually a very good question. Recent studies show that the sensitivity of RT-PCR for Covid-19 is only about 70%. Whereas, the sensitivity of a Chest CT is around 98%.
