Not only can they just up and fire you for no reason, even if there is a reason they have most likely been advised by the legal team to not give a reason unless they want to attempt to keep the now former employee from being paid unemployment income. And even then, the reason will be a vague as possible

That sometimes grinds my gears on unemployment. You can work years for a company and boom you or fired or let go for some made up for cause issue and end up jeopardizing your unemployment. Because the company doesn’t want to be on the hook for paying higher unemployment premiums, when you try to collect your generous 275 dollars week from the state of Louisiana for unemployment benefits.

Meanwhile after companies close down, the state hands out unemployment like candy. Since the company is no longer in business, they are not paying unemployment insurance.

In Texas you can get shite canned with no explanation or reason.

Right To Work State

Right to work is different from employment at will, but people confuse them on here all the time.

At will employment: You can quit any time, and they can fire you any time for any reason, so long as it is not one of the reasons (age, sex, race, etc.) protected against discrimination.

Right to Work: refers to state laws prohibiting employees from being forced to join a union as a condition of employment. Louisiana passed right to work laws in the late 70s. It was very contentious, with organized labor and the mob against it, and it may be what got Jim Leslie murdered in Baton Rouge.
