Question for HOA members - Basic Cable

I've been a homeowner of a condo for 10 years now, and we've had basic cable through Time Warner included as part of our HOA fees this entire time. For a while I had digital HD cable and internet added separately through TWC to my personal bill, and after getting fed up with TWC I decided to switch over to UVerse (both cable and internet).
I'd like to get rid of basic cable through TWC as part of our required HOA fees, and leave it up to each individual homeowner to choose which cable service provider they would like to have. Has anyone ever had experience suggesting or discussing/voting this issue? I'd love to hear some opinions, thanks.

How much are your HOA fees?
Do you think getting rid of it would reduce them significantly enough to make the fight worthwhile?

I'd imagine just bring it up at your next homeowners meeting. Email your HOA president and discuss it with them.

We don't have a choice in our HOA. U-verse is the neighborhood cable and internet. I doing mind it because I would chose uverse anyway.

Based on what I've seen from our recent budget statement it looks like they contribute roughly 10% of the total fees, so in my case about $20/month.

Not this specific issue, but I was President of an HOA for a few years. In general, folks are very hesitant to change - particularly when they believe they are getting a "free" service.
If you want to get any serious movement here, I'd suggest finding out exactly what breakdown of your fees are dedicated to TWC, and see how competitive the product you're getting is for that price. Your HOA may have secured a group rate that can't be beat individually - and you'll have a difficult sell getting votes. On the other hand, the HOA folks may have been lazy and are actually paying way more than they need to be, making it an easy sell for you. You'll also need to know the length of any contract the HOA undertook, as it may be a while before the HOA can get out of it.
Also, unless they were drafted well, HOA covenants can be a bitch to change - so if you have language in the covenants re: the cable, it will take some work getting those amended. Good luck

Basic cable is usually a good bit more than that for any individual to sign up. TWC must be providing a discount. So the question is, when you sign up for TWC's digital/HD extras, do you pay full price for it out of pocket, or do you get a $20 discount since you're already paying them through the HOA fees?

Thanks NaturalBeam, honestly I've never even gone to any of the meetings, I've just pretty much gone along with what the majority have voted for but I felt like maybe this was something worth mentioning. You're probably right though, there are quite a few of the older crowd that own condos here and I doubt they care about digital/HD/internet so basic cable is probably just fine with them. I'll bring it up at the meeting tonight anyways to see what reaction it gets, although it seems like I'll probably just be throwing money away on TWC.

During the time I was using TWC for digital/internet it didn't seem like I was getting any kind of discount, but then again I don't recall asking them about any HOA discounts. Like I said I had just gotten fed up with them over time and decided UVerse was a better option.

The problem is, if HOA does away with the basic cable plan, any HOA who just has basic cable will have to buy it on their own, and it will cost more. Even if outnumbered, those people will be more vocally pissed than the ones who already buy their own premium service.
