I watched it for the first time a few years ago and couldn’t believe that was the movie everyone loves so much

It really is a shitty movie that only got popular because they decided to play it on repeat

Wrong. They played it on repeat because it was popular. Even now, if it didn't pull some numbers they would stop.

FTR, the humor is clearly above the level of you dolts. It's hilarious.

Just like your hardass persona on here.

Fun fact: Flick was 15 years old in real life when he acted in the movie.

He looked 8-9 y.o.

If it was shitty, the frequency of it being shown wouldn’t matter.

It’s a good holiday flick with some flaws and some great moments. Nothing more.

The marathon ruined it for me. My BiL wouldn’t let the family turn it off for like a decade, it got really freakin annoying. Still refuse to watch it anymore.
agreed

Worst part is my in laws bring out pics of my father in law to show how much he looked like Ralphie

Which he didn’t - so it was annoying as hell and now I can’t stand the movie

robably an unpopular opinion, but I can’t stand Elf, mainly because I don’t find Will Ferrell funny at all.

I find Will generally hilarious (at least from the 90s to the early 2010s) and I don’t find elf funny. I’ve just never really liked it.

My dad also grew up in a working class Midwest town. So it just makes me think of what he told me life was like growing up. He’s also quite similar to the old man in the movie.

Just really taps into culture/lore of the Midwest half of my family.

For the older folks it reminds us of a time gone by.

I watch it every christmas day after we open presents.
