Prince also started the careers of Morris Day & the Time, Sheila E and a shitload of others as well as having written hit songs like "Nothing Compares 2 U" for Sinead O'Conner and "Manic Monday" for the bangles. Hell, he even had his own sound (the "Minneapolis" sound).
He was a consummate musician on a level few others could ever hope to match.
Well, the direction music is going now, especially pop music, requires no talent whatsoever.
I don't think we will see another one like him, probably ever. At least not one that will be that popular, anyway.

They found Prince in an elevator. I don't think you die of the flu in an elevator.
Never gonna let the elevator bring us down.

All pop music is a joke today. Music is about being creative and for someone to come along at the right time and take advantage of the times. Prince did this 10 fold. Nobody has or will ever be like him. There are so many artists that are great talents, but NONE as unique as Prince. That's what made him special.

Purple Rain during his halftime show is absolutely amazing
I don't think I've been this upset over a famous persons death since Ronald Reagan

Just now getting a chance to chime in, but this is a heartbreaking day for me.
My favorite musician of all time, and I truly believe the most talented musician that perhaps has ever lived. He could literally play any instrument you put in front of him and make it sound like it was his specialty.
One of the most incredible nights of my life was watching him live in concert in 2004.
The music world will never be the same.

I remember first seeing him on American Bandstand in his showcase appearance there. It was clear he was a talent.

They're playing Purple Rain (the movie) on MTV now

Yeah Choctaw. This one hits hard for me. I have never been one to go crazy over celebrities but people in music are different for me. And losing the best president in my lifetime was a hard hit as well.

Yep. No dinner making tonight. Calling in for pizza and watching purple rain.

Just checked on Netflix..no Purple Rain
Amazon video you can rent it for $2.99 though...if you don't want to watch it on MTV with commercials

I honestly think he was like the Mozart of our time. He was a genius.

Eh, commercials mean I can get things done around the house

We just had a huge prince discussion at work last week. I'm the only one who likes him

Sadly, people can watch that halftime show and draw comparisons with Kanye

I think it was his first five albums that he did every instrument. He didn't do just guitars and drums. He had a wide array of instruments played and he did it without the technology we have nowadays. Legit talent there.

It takes great talent to bring "trash can" and "be a man" together in poetic form.

The fact that he had to take an elevator in his own house suggest that he was tore up from the floor up. Probably OD'd

Or that he was really ill.
If I'm very wealthy and happen to own a home with an elevator, and I've been recently hospitalized for being ill and I'm still not feeling so great....better believe I'm taking the elevator instead of the stairs in my own home.
