Perkins Rowe is a post Katrina development. While it has never lived up to expectations

What were the original expectations?

That it would be this self-sustaining walkable neighborhood, but the condos never filled up, the contractor cut corners leading to big issues with the water system among other things, the developer went bankrupt, and several of the parcels still have not been developed.

It's still a net good thing for the city, but not the home run it was touted to be. IMHO, they put it in the wrong place. Perkins Rowe makes no sense where it is because people have to drive to get there and drive from there. They do have the medical center, but it's not in walking distance from really any other jobs. This keeps it from being the centerpiece of a larger movement to a denser, more walkable, city. Had Perkins Rowe been built closer to LSU, Mid City, or Downtown, it may have been better.

Personally I thought we would have more direct flights to more cities out of Baton Rouge airport

I feel like the place is a tease when it comes to flavor and especially value when compared to the options for Vietnamese in NOLA.

We did immediately after Katrina, but they all eventually returned to MSY.

#inBRwe love all the culture that has spilled into the city. Yet we all know that whitey has setup Florida Blvd to the the line in the sand between blacks and whites.

If you want value on Vietnamese food, you have to be willing to venture down Florida Blvd where the Vietnamese community in BR lives. (Sherwood)
