I don’t doubt that there are many flavors and someone well versed in wine can extrapolate on those...but there’s an element of snootiness to it as well.

I think some people take it too seriously.
Of course, I like tasting single malt scotches...so I really can’t talk. I love vino. I just don’t like the nose up in the air attitude some people get about price.

Look up Fred Dame.
Third shows some famous wine people talking about their favorite vintages and trying some. Really good too.

I used to think this too, and there certainly are people who talk out of their arse as well. But when you're tasting through wines and getting a feel for it, then all the sudden you start picking out and identifying the flavors in it, it's pretty cool.
Now I'm nowhere near as good as some of the people I come in contact with from day to day, but I can hold my own.
