You guys she be paying a higher tax that goes to interstate system. 18 wheelers destroy highways, not our sedans and mid sized trucks.

Guess what? Semis pay, almost entirely, for the upkeep of roads in this country, and lucky you,you get to use the roads almost for free.

Highways maybe, but locally. Our local roads in Louisville Metro and maintained and repaired by funds allotted through the city's capital budget. If you work here, you pay a city tax that funds that.

And here, UPS and FedEx semis both use our local roads extensively.

This just isnt true. Semi trucks pay more per vehicle, but property and sales taxes pay the bulk of local roads.

So what you are saying? The property tax from local industrial complexes, and sales tax from the stores where semis are delivering, pay most of the cost for local roads,so the locals get to drive on pavement for almost free.
Of course, you pay sales tax at your local stores when you buy something, and a small percentage does go for local streets I suppose, but if you don't have those local stores, ordering products that have to be brought in by truck, all of your sales tax will be going to another town or County, because that's where you would have to go buy things.
Also, most road taxes are paid at the fuel pumps.I think I paid about 80bucks worth of taxes On 450 dollars worth of fuel yesterday,1 1/2 days worth of fuel.

Then the cost to move goods would rise and guess who will foot the bill.

I think rail traffic should increase. Too many damn trucks on the road in the first place.

Okay. 18 wheelers are paying more taxes than car drivers.

That tax money doesn't seem to translate into better roads unfortunately.
