Wasn’t the original outrage that they were trying to pass the funds through Oprah’s foundation? Said foundation has a large staff, with numerous executives making lavish salaries. So it wasn’t so much the amount Oprah was donating. Rather, the funding mechanism which seemed a bit self serving.

She may have been an affirmative action employee of the TV station in Nashville many, many years ago, but the rest of us passed math classes and can see how relatively puny her donation to her neighbors was.

The original issue is that they were raising funds and “pledged” 10 million. They were asked if this was going to be from donations or their own money. They hesitated a little too long before doing some damage control.
