He's not that far away from Bill Clinton. Maybe on a few things.
Ol' Bill and the Dems used to be pretty anti illegal immigration too until they realized they were blocking out a potential voting block.
Bernie and Aoc would have been seen as absolute nut jobs 25 years ago.

I think what adds to it is the very tiny detail of "Likes" and other acknowledgments the online element brings to the table. It's become Pavlovian.
For example, if you go to the PTB here, there is an amazing amount of upvoting and downvoting. Doesn't matter the topic. But what does matter is how you respond to it. To be liked, you have to seemingly type in language or vitriol that the reader understands and agrees with. Anything less won't cut it. By nature, people will say or do almost anything to keep their "popularity". Same with FB.

Yep. He's an old school moderate Democrat and current Dems hate him because he's brash and tells the media to go frick off.
Other than that, there's not a huge difference between Trump, George Bush and someone like Bill Clinton. They are all big government types.

Politics has completely tainted virtually all aspects of life, it seems. Much like bible thumpers of yesteryear, all information is now filtered or twisted in order to best fit the preferred narrative of whichever political team they belong to.
It used to be that I only saw social conservatives as being ruined in this way, but now it's everyone. I'm liberal, but the Democratic party has basically become a puritanical crusader party of virtue. It's very reminiscent of religion in that regard.

Yes, I think what we've done (collectively) is weaponize virtue and outrage culture by setting a low speed limit and then selectively enforcing it. This is one thing I hated about religious factions I grew up around.

Correct. His policies are a mixed bag.
For as much as the left ridicules "trickle down economics" JFK was the originator in the modern age. His tax cuts led to a more stable economy in the 60s.

Used to be, there were Republicans and there were Democrats. They both disagreed on many political issues, but somehow found a way in Congress to come together and get shite done. They were tearing each other apart during the day and sharing a cold beer at happy hour. It was much like sports. At each other's throats during the game, and when the final whistle blows hugs and smiles.
It's not that way in politics anymore. It's so fricking hateful. It's going way out of your way to lean extreme right and extreme left, and not budging one bit. It's a complete mockery of what the founding forefathers made.
I detest politics because of that. And the level some will go to in our personal lives when they disagree with you because of your party preference. There aren't many things that are truly 100% in this world, yet some lie to themselves in order to fit the mold of what their party affiliation's stance is "supposed" to be by going full 100% of whatever the issue being discussed is.
