Most PD's have a setup where the tazer is on the opposite side of the belt from the gun and in a crossdraw configuration. I can't see how you could mistake the two.

Yet its happened numerous times. It has nothing to do with location, it has more to do with reacting under stress.

wasnt it or was he just so high that he thought it wasnt functional?

I don't know if it really matters- I believe the relevant standard is based on what a reasonable officer believed at the time of the shooting (Graham v. Connor)- not afterward.

With that in mind, how did the officers know he was high? Like I said earlier the video I saw didn't show a lot of interaction between the driver and the police.

I suppose, but I'd like to see the setups for the officers who have had "accidents".

Yes. PCP reactions vary and most aren't violent, crazy encounters. It's an anesthetic, side affects vary greatly.

True but this dude was running around the street claiming his car was about to blow up.

the officer that shot his has had training on detecting suspect that are possibly high on drugs

quote:

The Tulsa police officer who fatally shot Terence Crutcher after his car broke down in the middle of the street thought the unarmed man was behaving erratically and that he may have been under the influence of PCP,

quote:

Officer Betty Shelby, who is seen on police video firing a single fatal shot at close range at Crutcher, had recently undergone drug-recognition training and believed Crutcher was high on the dissociative sedative,

quote:

Wood said that Shelby radioed for backup after the father-of-four “never makes any response to her” when she asks him whether the SUV belongs to him. Wood said that Crutcher "had his head tilted down but eyes on and fixated on" Shelby.

quote:

Police have said that Shelby shot after Crutcher's “left hand goes through the car window”

Officer Betty Shelby fired a single shot at close range that video footage released Monday indicates hit Crutcher in the upper right chest. Another officer, Tyler Turnbough, deployed his Taser at almost the same time Shelby — who did not have a Taser — used her service weapon.

So is it common for an officer not to have a taser? i find this puzzling.

Him being on drugs would explain a lot. He was acting really stupid if he was basically ignoring everything the police were saying to him. Also why was the car broken down in the middle of the road? Wouldn't be try to pull it to the side when he realized he was having trouble? It sucks but he really didn't help himself out at all. The thing that gets me though is how they didn't even help him out at all and just let him bleed without giving him medical attention

Police training

A decent article on the subject, though it's a bit naive IMO.

Cops are trained that the problem isn't the other guy, it's their own complacency. Being complacent gets you killed. It's drilled and drilled into them. In some ways I think it creates confusion in dealing with less than lethal situations. I think many police training programs neglect the less than lethal approach and officers aren't always accustomed to using it. They go with their instincts which can be deadly.

I'm a teacher and I dont have kids a-hole. I've made it my life's mission to improve the life and moral of kids in low income areas.

They dont have a fighting chance because you guys are already judging us without knowing us abs stereotyping black males. You are apart of the problem as well.
