Dad got that same set for Christmas in 1936. We used to love when he'd dig it out of the basement and set it up. My younger brother has it now, still in the original box.

1952, Southern Pacific streamliner trapped in the snow for three day. No fatalities on the train, but the railroad sent a rotary snowplow to rescue the train and an avalanche hit the snowplow, killing the operator.

"Telescoping" was a horror of early rail travel. One train would strike another train from the rear, and often one car would telescope through the other. Obviously everyone in the car telescoped would be killed in a horrific manner.
This wreck at Mud Run, Pa. doesn't look like one that killed 64 people in this telescope.
