Have you only ever seen one tornado in your life? That's not a rain band. Fast moving tornados move like that all the time

WTF else are they going to do? Let it sit on the tarmac and get hit by it?

Some years ago, a friend was on a flight out of Austin that taxied like mad all over the airport during a severe thunderstorm. Turned out they were trying to dodge a tornado that went across one end of the airport, and they were the only unfortunate aircraft to be too late to take off ahead of it without enough time to go back to the gate either. All the aircraft boarding were deplaned, and people in the terminal were ordered into safe zones.

Was told pilot makes final call on go / no go in such take off weather conditions.
200+ lives and descendants, including pilot’s, say “make it count”.

Was on another SW plane that left the gate also going to Florida (Lauderdale) shortly after that flight left for Orlando.
Can confirm that there was an obviously nasty line of storms in the path of both flights, and our flight dipped south of the line, but the Orlando flight just went straight through it.
Come to find out, a friend was on that flight, and described the horror of it I hope to never experience. From what I saw alone, it seemed awfully wreckless to take that route. Could have easily gone north or south to get around.
