Electrical tech doesn't pay shite. Go for the full EE if one is going to go in that direction, imo. A lot of competition from H1B's, but 6 figures is fairly standard with a few years' experience from big companies (which, like any quality occupation, require good GPA's to get started with).

Very versatile field; can do R&D on lots of cool things, and it transfers between different types of electrical design (medical devices, computers, etc). It's good for pretty much anything that uses circuitry and/ or power generation.

Looking at a possible baseball scholarship there. If not it may be La Tech which has a good engineering dept

Much better school and he would probably be better off going into civil or mechanical engineering at Tech

Anecdotally, in my 20+ years in engineering I've never run across an engineer from LA Tech in my industry.

I’ve got to admit, I haven’t either. I find that the tech engineers tend to go for the glamorous jobs (such as the aerospace industry). Through my career I have typically gone for jobs that pay the most and those tend not to be the most glamorous jobs.

As stated, try a "Real" engineering degree, if he can handle the math. Even if he thinks he can't he should try. On a athletic scholarship, he should have access to tutors.

Civil
Mechanical
Chemical

OP, consider this. Young people are scared away from O&G, but as long as the increasing demand for electricity (believe it or not, electricity does not magically appear out of wall outlets from nowhere) and plastics exist, O&G is a thing.
