August is always the hottest month in Louisiana. Didnt need a heat map to tell me that.

Why are they dumb? Start by explaining exactly what they are, then follow by telling me why they are dumb.

When I lived in AZ, some kid I talked to was going to basic at Benning in August. He thought June was the hottest month in GA since it was in AZ. Told him he was in for a rude awakening

I don't know about those indexes but I do know that it is hotter than a fox fricking in a forest fire.

I walk out early morning and immediately start sweating like a whore in church.

Yes, I find this time of year hot, same as every year.

We have heat indexes here at 115 that aren't nearly as hot as a strait 105....feels like 105. Indexes are bullshite created by news outlets for maximum hype.
The problem lies in the fact temps are taken in the shade. So 105 in the sun.....which is closer to reality.....is about 125.

it's a way of including another variable, humidity, to give a more accurate measurement. not sure why that's a bad thing....

I understand that. But part of the calc is based on perception of heat. I don't know who the subjects were but I'm guessing at least 50% of them are Yankees. I'm just saying, humidity is a bitch but it's not as extreme as the indexes claim.

Last August, it got so hot my pigs melted and the grease ran down into the potato patch, and I had french fries sprouting everywhere!

Now that's hot friends.

That's pretty funny. Hopefully you had some tomatoes on the vine that made a good ketchup.

Looks about right for AZ, at least for heat. It gets a bit humid(relatively) and miserable in August, but not quite humid enough for the wind to feel cool.

The only reason peak heat shows in the Southwest in June is because it is prior to Monsoon season. The air is still dry allowing for greater thermometer elasticity. July and August are more miserable when the humidity jumps higher.

It's just a way for news media to hype the weather. Ever notice in winter the "heat index" gets replaced by the "wind chill factor"?

What happens to the wind chill factor in summer? Where does the heat index go during winter?

The temperature is 90 degrees. Oh, but if feels like 98. Subjective nonsense. Next time you argue over the AC thermostat, just drop the "feels like" setting on them.

so you're suggesting humidity plays no part in how I feel whether hot or cold?

laugh. out. loud.

anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows humidity is the reason LA heat sucks so much balls.

and to bring up AC, humidity plays a huge part in how efficiently it can cool. part of the process is removing water from the air to cool it.

news is culpable in many schemes to dramatize things, I don't think the heat index is one.

heat index or not, I've blown through two shirts and a case of deodorant just today.

this heat is downright oppresive.

My sunscreen jumped off my arm and straight up QUIT. didn't want any part of the sun.

I suggested no such thing. My comment was about how the news media hypes its effect, and that "feels like" is subjective.
