I have joint custody and pay child support. There's a formula, but I pay more basically because I wanted my ex to be able to afford a house for my child in a nice neighborhood. I always tell people that think of it as giving money to the child and not the mom. Unfortunately, in many cases the moms don't always use the money as it was intended.

I have 50/50 and pay support. It's not much (She shot herself in the foot in court). If he makes more money he will probably always have to pay.

I know guys who have good jobs and have to work a second job on the side to survive because child support and alimony eat up all their primary income.
Never understood that. If he has a good job and takes a second job to pay for that, the judge is still basing his child support cut based on his total income. Did he take another job just to make ends meet or what?

It's because the courts don't care about your Debt load save a prior judgment for Child Support(i have unique experience in that).
I agree it's very 'unfair' to only look at one's income and not debt load b/c the non-residential parent leaving(usually dad) usually has a shite ton of new debt/rent/bills to pay.

they also disregard the fact that the income is taxable
