Our engineers here are pretty much only project managers. We hire outside firms for the design work.

Of course it is good to have educated, competent, and experienced engineers to oversee every phase of a $140M 20 month project. But will that always be necessary? Could we train other positions to eventually lead projects?

you hire outside firms for design work because its inefficient for in house engineers to do design work, the software license cost tens of thousands, then on top of that most insurance and certs require all design drawings to be stamped by outside third party.

but yea many engineers are project managers, but there are whole departments that arent that handle equipment.

My oldest is a senior in college. Computer science major. He is looking at cybersecurity. His girlfriend's parents both have experience in that field. We have mega-offices for ADP, Lexis Nexis, and several other fortune 500s down the road.

2nd oldest is in nursing. She should graduate next year. She wants to get into anesthesiology after a few years are under her scrubs.

3rd oldest is a freshman with computer science major. Calculus will force her to change majors. Everything is on the table (from law enforcement and military to art and design).

Youngest is a junior in high school. He is interning at Spicer Group (civil engineering firm), but he wants to pursue robotics at Georgia Tech. He will begin taking dual enrollment courses at Tech next year.
