Development matters.

I had little chores like vacuuming when I was 7, 8.

Mow lawns and full gardening.
Age 12 to 14.
Helped step brother with his newspaper route.

Age 15. Started egg route. Door to door door sales.

I paid profit to family and paid sister to work for me.
All the $ I made from age 12 on went into a joint savings account. I didn't touch it.
I was told my college would be paid for in return.
Once in college:
Gift car and
Didn't work again until graduation from college.

I had asked about getting paid for grades in 2nd grade after hearing some kid go on about getting paid for report card.
I was told that was not in the cards. Just get A's.
