Paging Napolean: Old Maytag Washer Problem

I have a very old Maytag "Large Capacity Heavy Duty" washing machine that won't turn on.
If you turn the knob to "Rinse" or "Spin" and pull the center those functions will come on ( no water though) but turning it to one of the pound settings in either wash cycles ("Regular" or "Permanent Press") does nothing.
A friend suggested that it was the timer. I watched a youtube video on removing the timer so I was able to gain access to it. The timer in the youtube video had one big modern pigtail attached to it whereas mine has a bunch of individual wires connecting it so I have left it in place so far.
The timer is model # 2-07379. A google search comes up with a few for $100.00 and up and I just don't want to invest that much money into a twenty-plus-year-old washing machine.
ebay has few listed that look just like mine (at least they have terminals in all the right places) that are in the $30-$40 range but the model #s are different.
Is there an Interchange Manual for washing machine parts? Is there some way I could find out if one these other timers will work for mine?
Thanks in advance.
And to everyone else, no, I'm obviously not an O-T Baller.

Did you use the potato phone 5000?

Probably the timer. I swapped out one a few years ago on a 90s model that had similar problems. Problem solved. I would wait on Napoleon's advice, though. GL.

I don't think it's the timer.
On spin it spins?
'Have you tried changing the inlet temperature and seeing if it comes on?
The machine has to fill with water until it satisfies the vacuum switch before it starts running.
The inlet valve fails all the time.
At about the eleven o clock position in the timer there should be a tiny mark. Set the timer there and pull and see if it starts to agitate. If it does you know either you fill switch or inlet are bad.
You can by pass the fill switch to see if that's the issue.
The old inlet valve clogs over time.
Lastly if it's the timer, it has to be the EXACT timer. If not the functions won't line up with your panel and you'll never know what setting it's in.
Now those old timers can be fixed.
If the timer doesn't advance, simply change the advance motor( which is practically universal)
Next the contacts in the timer burn out over time. Generally to fix a little sand paper is all you need.
Though if the timer advances (put it in spin and see if it turns off in less than 10 minutes) and spin works and agitate works (that 11 o clock setting)
Then your issue is with the water inlet or fill switch.
Don't just go buy a timer.
Also I'd put $300 into that machine before putting 300 on a new similar machine.
Your machine is the basis for the modern Speed Queen.
Eta that machine may not have the agitate test position.
Start with by bypassing the limit switch and see if it agitates.

Add wire where I have red wire in drawing.
You can't frick this up. If it does intimidate you, then simply unhol the hose from the switch at the tub and blow in it.
It should run once the switch is engaged (assuming machine in a wash position, with lid closed and knob pulled)

Thank you so much!
I won't be fooling with it tonight (Geaux Tigers!) but I'll give that a try tomorrow.
Let me buy tou lunch sometime!
